Why empty places fail on Drummond
The island is large and spread out. Year-round lights cluster near the ferry and Four Corners. Whitney Bay, Johnswood, the quarry side, and the back roads are a different map in January: long driveways, unplowed two-tracks, and cottages you cannot see from a main road. A furnace that dies out there does not get a neighbor's knock. It gets a May discovery.
Ferry access is year-round in theory. Ice in DeTour Passage is real. EUPTA runs through winter, and the Coast Guard breaks ice when the cutters are healthy, but delays happen. If your plan assumes we will be there the morning after a Tuesday freeze, know the boat might not be.
Power blinks. Wind off the North Channel loads roofs and throws trees. Mice find hunting camps with a bag of dog food in the pantry. Ice shove on exposed shore is the same problem as the Les Cheneaux, with fewer people around to notice. The ice bridge to St. Joseph Island, Ontario, is a snowmobile route. It is not how we get to your cottage.
What we do on the island
Routine home watch. Interior and exterior checks: heat, leaks, power, doors and glass, pests, roof line, and whether anyone has been in. Camps with no well still get a shell check.
Storm and freeze checks. Extra trips after cold snaps and heavy snow, timed to ferry runs. If the boat is down, we tell you. We do not invent a visit.
Opening and closing. Water on or off and seasonal shut-down, often paired with a plumber for blow-outs. Many Drummond places are still true seasonal water.
Key-holding and contractor meets. Meeting a contractor on Drummond means matching the ferry. We can let them in so you do not take a day off to stand at the dock. We do not paint. If you hired a painter for next season, we can meet them.
Starting points pending a walkthrough: Essential $59/mo monthly, Seasonal Guardian $99/mo bi-weekly, Full Care $149/mo weekly. Ferry time, island mileage, and unplowed access can raise the quote.
How it works on Drummond
- 1Walkthrough when you are on island, or a detailed video walk if you are not. We need the road name, whether it gets plowed, and whether heat stays on.
- 2Checks booked against the ferry schedule. We route DeTour and Drummond together when we can.
- 3Photo report after every visit. If ice cancelled the boat, you get that message instead of silence.
Reviews coming as we complete the first season.

Drummond Island FAQ
Do you really cross in winter?
Yes, on days the ferry is running. If passage ice stops the boat, the visit waits and you hear from us. We will not sell a schedule the island cannot support.
Hunting camp vs lake cottage: same service?
Same inspection idea. Different access and different systems. Tell us if there is no well, a wood stove only, or a generator. Do not assume the $59 starting point covers a back-lot camp down an unplowed trail.
How do I start?
Quote form. Town: Drummond Island. Note the area (ferry side, Whitney Bay, Johnswood, or other) and whether the drive is plowed. Start with the quote form.
